The Hype vs Reality Index starts from a serious problem. Retail investors are among the most exposed participants in the public markets, yet they are often the least protected from sensationalism, fragmented information and manipulated narratives. In practice, they are asked to allocate hard-earned capital inside an environment optimized for noise, urgency and emotional reaction.

At one extreme, this can lead to a small but avoidable monetary loss. At the other, it can jeopardize life savings, distort risk perception and push people into reckless behavior they would never accept in any other serious financial decision. That asymmetry matters. Professional capital has teams, terminals and privileged context. Most individuals have headlines, social feeds and delayed understanding.

This index is my attempt to narrow that gap. Not by pretending markets can be reduced to a single number, but by building a public tool that says something plainly: what part of a stock’s story is narrative heat, and what part is operating reality? If the answer is uncomfortable, that is often a sign the tool is doing its job.

Tycoon exists to make businesses legible. The Hype vs Reality Index extends that mission into a more institutional form: a record of where attention is distorting judgment, where products are genuinely delivering, and where retail investors deserve clearer signals than the market usually provides.
